i wish

March 12, 2011  |  I Wish  |  No Comments

upon my 200th post for something you can grant: If you have a moment, say a prayer for Japan today. If you’re in a position to help, do.

If you don’t already have a regular avenue for donations, or are a little overwhelmed by the amount of donation sites online, my advice would be to donate to a major aid organization, such as The Red Cross.

We were fortunate that nobody we know in Japan has been affected by this, but that of course doesn’t change the scope of death and destruction: it only means the burden of loss has fallen upon someone else. Please join me in keeping the tsunami victims and their families in your hearts.

how hard can it be?

I know exactly one person who is reading that title and laughing right now.

Background: the title is a bit of an inside joke between my friend Belle and I. It kind of became a catchphrase when we were working together at a magazine and I’d use it to sell her on ideas that were, at best, completely insane.

Example: “I bet we could just break in and do the photoshoot there before security caught on. We only have about 50 people to sneak in, and museum security isn’t that tight, is it? I mean, really. How hard can it be?”

Good times.

Anyway, it seems How Hard Can It Be is actually the title for a new show on the National Geographic Channel. I would sue for catchphrase infringement, except they’ve won me over by releasing a sneak peek an episode they recently filmed:

Well played, Nat Geo. Well played.

If this blog were a pet, I’m fairly certain it would have turned on me by now. And I’d deserve it – what neglect! I know it’s not much of an explanation, but we’ve lately been absolutely inundated with projects (wonderful) and therefore running on fumes (not so wonderful). Most days, the choice is either blogging or sleep…

But having just rediscovered this amazing dark-circle-killing concealer, I’ve decided to be a bit cavalier about all this sleep nonsense and get back in the saddle today. Also, I just had to share this inspiring art installation with anyone else that needs their busy lives put into perspective.

Artist Candy Chang’s giant chalkboard bucket list, Before I Die, invites passers-by to remember and share their life’s true priorities.

What an innovate platform with which to build empathy in a community. I’d smile more at my neighbors if I knew what wishes they kept in their hearts, wouldn’t you?

Project details and more photos on Candy’s website.

the big set up

Even though letterpress is an exercise in texture, I sometimes dream about working in real 3D – by which I mean dabbling in interior or set design. I’d prefer the latter for its dramatic and whimsically impractical nature, but oh. What I’d give to be good at either.

The work of Shona Heath, a.k.a. Tim Walker’s go-to-girl, is not helping these creative longings. I stumbled upon her portfolio yesterday and was just blown away. Then I realized she was the genius behind not only the Vogue astrology shoot I posted a while ago, but pretty much every standout editorial/ad campaign I’ve seen in the last few years.

Aren’t these so beautiful and inspiring? I think I’ve developed serious a design crush.

Admit it – you’re in love too.

letterpress sale

March 1, 2011  |  Letterpress, News  |  2 Comments

Let me preface this post by saying this: while letterpress wedding invitations are extremely affordable if you’re planning a large wedding, low quantity orders can be costly. It’s always bothered us that brides who want intimate celebrations get the short end of the stick when it comes to invitations, so this was something we’ve been wanting to do for a while.

We’ll be offering 50 letterpress wedding invitations at just $300 – customized with your favorite colour and information. Ta-daa! Letterpress democracy!

But it gets better: each invitation order comes with free matching personalized notecards. Use them to send a sweet handwritten note with your invitations, save them for your post-party Thank You’s, or just keep them to use as personal stationery. Are you loving this as much as I am?

All you have to do is drop us an email naming your favourite design, your colour choice (refer to the chart below), and your wedding info. Then, sit back and wait for us to get in touch to work out text details. We only have one set of invitations and notecards available per design though, so do jump on this before all four sell out.

So what are you waiting for? Scroll down to choose your invitation…

The nitty gritty:

A 50% deposit is required for design reservations. Until we receive payment, we are unable to guarantee you’ll get the design you want. We only have one of each design for sale, so move quick, people!

Sale prices apply to quantities of 50 single-colour invitation cards only. Larger orders of these designs are welcome, but are priced regularly after the first 50 sets. Envelopes for both invitations and notecards aren’t included in this offer, but are available at regular prices.

Invitation and notecard design and text are fixed. We are however happy to alter the amount of text to accommodate the hosts’ details, RSVP information and/or dress code.

Sale orders do not include personal consultations. This sale is open to international as well as local clients, so in the interest of fairness, we’ll be communicating via email only. But don’t worry – sale orders include up to 2 rounds of digital proofs.

Turnaround time is about 14 days on most orders. We’ll be able to give you a better timeline once you’ve confirmed your order, but the countdown starts once we have received your deposit and scans of the final signed proof and contract.

Thank you for helping us spread the word. We’ll be printing our logo and URL very small, on the back bottom edge of all cards. It’s tiny, really! Normally, we’d love word-of-mouth recommendations, but who is going to have time for that on their wedding day? This’ll be so much easier, we promise.

Your invitations will be immortalized as samples! We’ll photograph them for our online gallery, and will be happy to send you the professional photos for your own use as well. We’ll also be using the cards in our physical portfolio for clients and trade partners. You’ll be famous!
