Every time I come across a snip of vintage packaging, it confirms my suspicion that everything was just so much more charming back in the day. Sure, you’d probably kick it at the ripe old age of 30 after catching a cold, but man. Graphic design back then was something else.

The folks at Seen+Noted clearly agree. Behold, their stunning modern reproductions of vintage typewriter ribbon tins. How gorgeous are these?

And there’s a poster!

Note: Unfortunately, it seems from their related post that these prints and poster were created for a specific event and aren’t on sale anymore. I say we all write in and beg them to print a second run of these for sale – I’d buy one of those posters in a heartbeat, wouldn’t you?

moodboard monday

I’m a fan of fashion’s recent neon movement, but I admit it took some warming up to. Too often, it’s overdone. And where neon is concerned, there definitely can be too much of a good thing.

So how does one tap this new trend without it looking like you fell out of the early 90′s? Think about the pops of colour being a surprise – as accents rather than focal points – because when paired with lots of chic, light neutrals, neons are just shocking…in the best possible way!

Is anyone else out there a total Instagram addict? I can’t go a day without it – part voyeurism, part art, what’s not to love?

You’ve probably already guessed this by looking at the photo, but my partner-in-crime Belle and I made our own March Photo-a-Day challenge, and it would love for you to join us!

Save & share this photo with your friends, and I’ll see you on out there. If you’re new to this, just remember to tag your photos with #marchphotoaday so we can all keep connected. Isn’t the internet awesome?

between the lines

Aren’t these amazing?

I just recently got clued into Brian Dettmer‘s intricate book sculptures (via Neil Gaiman‘s twitter, no lie) and had to share. Irony aside, words fail me where describing the brilliance of this is concerned. Plus I think the artist himself says it best:

“The richness and depth of the book is universally respected yet often undiscovered as the monopoly of the form and relevance of the information fades over time. The book’s intended function has decreased and the form remains linear in a non-linear world. By altering physical forms of information and shifting preconceived functions, new and unexpected roles emerge.”

These are just a few of my favourites, but I highly recommend checking out his other pieces here and here

happy new(ish) year

I’m feeling a bit like Rip Van Winkle today.

Seems like just yesterday I was telling myself I’d give myself December off from blogging (and work too, but that didn’t happen) but here I am now, smack dab in the last bit of February feeling guilty for not having come back sooner.

Anyway, to catch you up on things, I had a nice, quiet holiday season with friends and family – just the kind of downtime I needed to balance out a fairly eventful work calendar that shows no signs of lightening up in the next month.

2011 was an amazing year for Paper Tiger Press, and from what I can tell 2012 is set to fare no worse…all due to your support, of course. Thank you all so much for that.

I can’t wait to share all the amazing projects that have hit my desk lately – my new year’s resolution is to update this site more – so stay tuned. Here’s hoping your new(ish) year is on the up-and-up too, and that it takes me less than two months to come wandering on back to this space.
