I’m a fan of fashion’s recent neon movement, but I admit it took some warming up to. Too often, it’s overdone. And where neon is concerned, there definitely can be too much of a good thing.

So how does one tap this new trend without it looking like you fell out of the early 90′s? Think about the pops of colour being a surprise – as accents rather than focal points – because when paired with lots of chic, light neutrals, neons are just shocking…in the best possible way!

I doubt there’s a single person out there who isn’t just a little bit fascinated with stars. They are magic: stunning to catch sight of, but beautifully subtle still.

But of course the best kind of magic is the kind you don’t notice till you’re already spellbound, and for this reason alone I prefer a more muted take on the standard blue and gold palette normally associated with starry motifs. One has to balance out all that glitter somehow!

Black is a bit of a risque wedding colour choice here in Asia, but I couldn’t help it.

The deep, velvety colours of this board are the first place my mind goes when looking for inspiration at this time of the year, and with a focus on nature, it reads more Old Masters than Goth, don’t you think?

Happy (belated) Thanksgiving Canada! Hope you guys up north had a wonderful weekend of family time and good food.

Though we don’t celebrate it here in Singapore, I just love Thanksgiving. Setting a day aside to count one’s blessings is just genius, if you ask me. We all get caught up in what we don’t have (or haven’t accomplished) that it’s easy to overlook all the wonderful things we do have going on in our lives.

Canadian Thanksgiving is (for me at least) indicative of the official start of fall…and the beautifully fiery colours it brings with it. Such an underrated palette, if you ask me!

Credits to come – closed all my tabs accidentally, so I’ll update this if/when I find them…sorry guys!

It’s no surprise that today’s moodboard celebrates the colour of the month: pink!

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’re probably well aware that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month all over the world…which mean pink ribbons galore. What’s not to love?

If you haven’t OD’ed on pinkness after this post, be sure to check back later today as we have a very special announcement to make. Brides, please take a moment to get excited.

Despite my mother’s lightning-quick veto on it as a wedding theme, I think the spare elegance of twigs in event decor is beautiful. I mean really, what’s not to love about a motif that so deftly walks the line between modern and folksy?

Her reasoning: they aren’t a terribly auspicious element to incorporate into an Asian wedding. Um, not quite enough to turn me against twigs, especially since we aren’t actually planning a particularly Asian wedding – which makes sense, not actually being particularly Asian ourselves – but I’m picking my battles.

Hopefully someone out there loves this enough to stick it out in the trenches a little longer. Be sure to mention that bare branches are wonderful symbols of hope, promise and resilience; spring’s joyous reminder that even the worst storms can be weathered.

I realize I’m a bit late to the party here, but how gorgeous are Kate Moss’ wedding photos? I love how effortless and organic it all looks – as if it just happened – but since I know that’s definitely not the case, my compliments go to her wedding planner, stylists, and vendors!

That said, I don’t think its hard to pull off a similar look. All you need is a palette of neutral and blush tones, accents of handmade elements, and lots of loosely arranged florals everywhere. Couture gowns and really, really ridiculously good-looking attendees are a plus.

Oops! One day late, but hopefully just in time for some National Day perusing.

Anyway, help me out here – is it just me or do most brides pick the iconic Tiffany blue as a wedding colour, then skew lighter and end up with a powder blue instead? Don’t get me wrong. Pale blue is lovely, but if you take a good look at a box from Tiffany’s, you’ll see it’s actually quite a punchy turquoise.

Personally, I love it in a palette with cousin shades of seaglass, and accented with gold and rosy hues. Bonus points if the overall look is elegant but laid back, much like the très chic pairing of blue-boxed bling with jeans.

Side note: that cake. I die.

I can’t count the number of times I’ve had clients ask me to help them reconcile two completely opposite aesthetics. The sweet spot between extreme ornamentation and stark minimalism is especially popular – it’s definitely a go-to for couples who want grand but not stuffy, luxurious but not OTT.

It’s also more than a little hard to pull of without invoking a design cliche, which is always a major consideration in my creative process. To me, this look is about unexpected details, with a careful mix of luxe touches and modern simplicity.

I’ve recently developed an obsession with all things retro, which of course has bubbled over and materialized in letterpress form at the studio. Unfortunately it was only for a personal project…but I’d love to see this moodboard come to life for a wedding, wouldn’t you?

What I really love about this moodboard is the contrasts between homey and glam, retro and modern, cool and hot. I could go on and on about this, but I’ll just leave off here and let you (hopefully!) find your own inspiration in it.
